Elephants

A couple of weeks ago a dear friend from church had a baby shower and I missed it! I had no idea her shower was scheduled and when it was announced I was in the nursery with my 5 1/2 month old. Sweet Sarah is such a wonderful mom- she exemplifies patience and I see her as not only a mom to her kids but also, their best friend. She is so attentive with all FIVE of them and with the upcoming arrival of baby Ellie in December, this little girl will be stealing the show!

I love the name Ellie and as I was thinking about what to make as a baby gift, I wanted to give her something that was unique but not necessarily an essential. I think Sarah has all the essentials but a simple toy can come in handy any time.

I found this amazing tutorial on Birch Fabrics  and designer Christina McKinney did a fabulous job with her instructions on how to make an elephant plushie. I made one for Ellie and Jack. Jack loves his and I hope Ellie will enjoy hers one day!

I used SU Comfort Cafe fabric for Ellie's elephant and I love how the colors go so well together. If you look closely, you can see her name embroidered on the ear flap. I used Essentials Designer Fabric for Jack's elephant and his name is embroidered on the inside of the flap. I was going to switch it to be visible on the outside but I like how (I'm too lazy to remove the stitches and start all over) it's a hidden gem. This is the first toy I made for him and he plays with it a lot! The beauty of this project is both it's simplicity and it's safety. Something both kids can enjoy for quite some time.

Ellie, I can't wait to meet you!
